To get students working in Classkick, you’ll follow four steps:
- Create an assignment
- Create a roster
- Assign the roster to the assignment
- Have students access their work
Once these steps are complete, students can begin working immediately and you’ll be able to see their progress in real time.
1) Create an Assignment
First, create or upload an assignment in Classkick.
You can create assignments from:
- A PDF or existing file
- The Assignment Library
- Slides created directly in Classkick
See this article for step-by-step instructions: Create your first assignment
2) Create a Roster
There are two types of rosters depending on your account type:
- Basic (free) rosters
- Pro rosters with Portfolio students
To learn more about the differences between Portfolio and Basic student accounts, see this article: Basic vs. Portfolio Student Accounts
For step-by-step instructions on creating each roster type, see:
After students have joined your roster, we recommend locking it to prevent students from joining the wrong roster or creating duplicate accounts.
See Lock a Roster for instructions.
Tip: If you have a Pro account, we recommend using Portfolio student rosters so students can log in and access work from their dashboard.
3) Assign the Roster to an Assignment
Once your roster is created, assign it to an assignment to generate a class code students will use to join.
You can share the class code with students, or share the assignment link, which automatically fills in the class code for them.
Class codes are unique to each assignment + roster combination, so be sure to share the correct class code with students.
See this article for step-by-step instructions:
Assign a Roster to an Assignment (Generate a Class Code)
Please watch the video below for visual support on assigning to a roster/generating a class code:
After students join your roster, consider locking the roster to prevent students from accidentally joining the wrong roster or creating duplicate usernames.
4) Students Join the Assignment
How students join depends on whether they are using Basic or Portfolio accounts.
Basic students
1. In the Class Code box, type in the Class Code.
2. In the Name box, type student's name
3. Click GO.
Students must type their name the exact same way each time they log in.
To prevent duplicate names or students joining the wrong roster, you can lock your roster after students have joined.
Portfolio students
Portfolio students should skip typing their name or class code and log in with Google, Clever, or their email/username.
1. Click LOG IN.
2. Click CONTINUE WITH GOOGLE, CONTINUE WITH CLEVER or type in Email or username and password.
PLEASE NOTE: To have students log directly into a specific assignment (instead of the dashboard), have them:
1. In the Class Code box, type in the Class Code.
2. Click LOG IN.
3. Log into their Portfolio account.
For visual step-by-step student login instructions, see: Student Login Instructions
Please watch the video below for visual instructions on how to get Pro students signed up.
5) View Work and Provide Feedback
Once students are working, you can easily see which slides students have accessed, view an overview of their responses, and see which students have raised their hand.
You can provide feedback in real time to ensure your students get the help they need.
6) Getting Started Tips
Students can return to an assignment later by logging in the same way they originally joined.
- If students are using Basic accounts, their name must be entered exactly the same way each time to access their work.
- For example, if a student types "Andy S" into the name box, they must continue entering "Andy S". Variations like "Andy S.", "Andy", or "Andrew" will create a new student account.
- If you want to prevent students from having multiple names on your roster, you can also check out this article on locking the roster.
If you are using a Pro account, we recommend using Portfolio student accounts so students can access assignments from their dashboard and teachers can use Student Overview.
- If you already have a roster with Basic students and would like to switch to Portfolio accounts, please see this help center article for tips on getting started with Pro.
